JONESBORO, Ark. (A-State) - The Arkansas State volleyball squad fell to in-state conference rival UALR 3-2 (28-26, 23-25, 11-25, 25-17, 15-12) Wednesday night at the Convocation Center.

After a UALR (17-7, 9-3 SBC) first set win, A-State bounced back to take the next two sets to take a 2-1 match lead. In the second set, UALR jumped out to a 10-7 lead, but Arkansas State (11-16, 6-6 SBC) erased the lead on a Jackie Gerig service ace to tie the score at 13-13. The set went back and forth and A-State claimed a lead at 20-19 after a Trojan attacking error. The Red Wolves wouldn't surrender the lead the rest of the set and with the score tied 23-23 two consecutive points on a Kelsey Reis kill and UALR attack error gave A-State the 25-23 victory in the second set.

With the match tied 1-1, A-State never trailed in the third set and jumped out to an early 10-6 lead after an attack error by UALR. The Red Wolves used an 11-3 run to take a 21-9 advantage after a Kendal Davis kill. The Trojans scored two of the next three points to make the score 22-11, but kills from A-State's Davis, Mallory Warrington, and Kelsey Sullivan clinched a 25-11 third game victory for ASU.

After a UALR fourth set victory, the Red Wolves got off to a slow start in the deciding fifth set by allowing the Trojans to take a 3-0 edge. A-State fought back to within two points at 11-9 and trailed by two again at 14-12, but a kill from UALR's Sonja Milanovic gave the Trojans a 15-12 fifth set victory and 3-2 match victory.

"I thought we fought hard and competed the whole night," A-State volleyball coach David Rehr said. "It was unfortunate that we didn't get the win. I'm proud of my team and how we carried ourselves on the court."

Four Red Wolves recorded double-digit kills, led by Sullivan and Sadie Clark with 14 each, while Davis and Reis recorded 10 each. Warrington dished out 44 assists during the match to pace the Red Wolves and also led the team with 17 digs and two service aces. Megan Baska and Markie Schaedig also recorded double-digit digs for the Red Wolves with 13 and 12 respectively. Reis led the team with three blocks.

A-State raced out to a 6-2 lead in the first set after a Sullivan kill and were able to stretch the lead to 17-10 on another Sullivan kill. UALR fought back with an 11-4 run to tie the set at 21-21 and took the lead at 23-22 after an ASU attack error. A-State tied the set again at 26-26 after a Clark kill, but an Arkansas State service error, followed by a Trojan service ace gave the Trojans a 28-26 game one victory. UALR jumped ahead to a 10-6 lead in the fourth set of the match and never looked back in earning the 25-17 game four victory to tie the match at 2-2.

The Red Wolves return to action Friday, Nov. 1 against South Alabama. First serve is set for 7 p.m. at Jag Gym in Mobile, Ala.
