FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (AP) - Award-winning author Joyce Carol Oates plans a visit to Fayetteville next spring to read from her work.

The University of Arkansas says Oates will do a reading April 21 at the Fayetteville Town Center. The free event is part of the University of Arkansas Programs in Creative Writing and Translation Distinguished Readers Series.

Oates is the author of more than 50 novels along with dozens of short story collections, children's books, essays and poetry collections. Her novel "Them" won the National Book Award in 1970.

The university says Oates will also meet with students in the Master of Fine Arts program in creative writing during her visit.
