LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) - Hunting season is getting ready to take full swing. But right now, there's a national shortage on ammunition.

Ammo for the 22 wind mag, the 17 HMR, and the 22 long rifle is flying off the shelves.

"It's just getting all snatched up," said Nathan House, General Manager of the Arkansas Armory. "It kind of started back during the first of the year. During a scare that happened with ammunition and the demand has stayed high and just continued to be high throughout that timeline."

Manufacturers just can't keep up with that demand.

House said the 22 long riffles are mainly used on small game like squirrels, rabbits, and snakes.

"I haven't found any shortage in hunting rifles but certainly some pistols," said deer hunter Phillip Singletary.

He said his advice to fellow hunters is to not wait until the last minute to stock up.

"I just check all the local hunting stores, and sporting goods stores and be there first thing in the morning."

House said he just doesn't know when the next shipment is coming in.

"Well we have our guns but they don't do much good unless you have ammo," said gun owner Dana Colaianni. "Apparently the people who really want it, circle."
