FORT SMITH, Ark. (AP) - A fire danger alert has been issued for western Arkansas and northeastern Oklahoma.

Officials say this weekend's elevated fire danger is attributed to a combination of strong winds and low humidity. Winds on Sunday will not be as strong as Saturday, but Sunday will have a lower humidity than Saturday.

The National Weather Service in Tulsa says that wind gusts of 25-35 mph were forecast for Saturday with lower relative humidity values predicted to fall below 30 percent on Sunday.

Meteorologist Joe Sellers tells the Times Record that it's going to be windy and warm with a low relative humidity. Sellers says that any time that combination is present, there's an enhanced fire danger.

There is just a 20 percent chance of rain on Sunday, mainly in the morning.
