LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AMLKC) - Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. did not just fight for civil rights, justice and freedom - he also wanted to promote non-violence that is vital to bringing unity to America's communities together with empowerment, especially ending poverty.

As a state agency, the Arkansas Martin Luther King, Jr. Commission under the leadership of Mr. DuShun Scarbrough - Executive Director, will host its annual free 2014 King Holiday Celebration: "A Day of Service - A Day On, Not A Day Off" on Monday, January 20, 2014 at the Pine Bluff Convention Center in Pine Bluff, AR featuring special guest speaker, nephew of Dr. King, Mr. Isaac Farris.

During this monumental occasion, the state's Arkansas MLK, Jr. Commission will have a celebratory performance held to commemorate the congressionally legislated Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, a United States holiday marking the birthday of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., observed on the third Monday of January each year, around the time of King's birthday, January 15, 1929.
