Melbourne, Australia (SportsNetwork.com) - Stan Wawrinka defeated an injured Rafael Nadal in Sunday's men's final at the 2014 Australian Open.

The eighth-seeded Swiss Wawrinka upset the world No. 1 Nadal 6-3, 6-2, 3-6, xxx at Melbourne Park's Rod Laver Arena, where the Spaniard labored mightily with an apparent back injury on Day 14.

The Grand Slam title is the first of Wawrinka's career, as he becomes only the second-ever Swiss to corral a major singles championship, joining the great Roger Federer, who was blown out Nadal in a semifinal here on Friday.
