MAUMELLE, Ark. (KTHV) - A student at Maumelle Middle School was left unconscious after a fight at the school Wednesday, according to a report from the Maumelle Police Department.

The report states that the responding Maumelle police officer arrived on scene and found the juvenile unconscious on the floor of a hallway. The security officer at the school said he saw two students fighting and witnessed the juvenile's head be slammed against the ground. The school officer said the other juvenile involved was in the principal's office.

The Maumelle officer asked the other student involved if he was okay and he reportedly responding saying that he was, but he had been hit in the jaw. Due to the severity of the unconscious student's injuries, the other student was charged with 2nd degree battery and transported to the Maumelle Police Department. He was then released to the custody of his mother.

It is not known what may have led to the fight. THV11 will update this story as more information is available.
