SKILLMAN, N.J. (ATU) - The Arkansas Tech Golden Suns tennis team has built upon its solid start to the season, debuting at No. 2 in the ITA Central Region poll released Wednesday.
The ranking is a program-record ranking, eclipsing the No. 6 ranking the Golden Suns achieved at the conclusion of fall play. Harding (No. 9) is the only other Great American Conference team ranked in the poll.
While no individual players or doubles teams were ranked in this edition of the ITA poll, the Golden Suns had several players ranked in the previous poll, released Nov. 4. Transfer junior Olga Leyshyna ranked seventh in the region, while freshman Nozomi Matsuoka debuted at No.13 in the individual poll. Leyshyna and defending Great American Conference Player of the Year Bohdana Sardak ranked as the No. 4 doubles team in the region, while Matsuoka and fellow freshman Tamara Bell were eighth in the doubles poll.
The next poll will be released on Mar. 19, and will include singles and doubles rankings in addition to the team rankings.
The Golden Suns return to action on Tuesday, Feb. 25, facing John Brown at the Chartwells Women's Sports Complex. A 2 p.m. match is scheduled.
