LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) - Little Rock businessman Curtis Coleman has made his bid official for the Republican gubernatorial nomination.

Coleman on Monday filed paperwork to run for the state's top office. He was among the first in line for the start of the weeklong filing period for state and federal offices.

Coleman told reporters he believed he could win the GOP nomination, despite lagging in fundraising against primary rival and former congressman Asa Hutchinson. Coleman said he believed he had the grassroots support and stronger message than Hutchinson.

Former U.S. Rep. Mike Ross is the only Democrat running for the state's top office. Democratic Gov. Mike Beebe is term-limited and can't run for re-election.
