Netflix streamed faster for Comcast customers in February, after the online video company began paying for direct access to Comcast's network late last month. Netflix (NFLX) said Comcast (CMCSA, Fortune 500) speeds were up 11% from January, following four straight months of declines. Instead of delivering its traffic through third parties, such as Cogent Communications (CCOI), as Netflix has done previously, Netflix now pays Comcast to feed its videos directly.

Even facing an uphill battle, SoftBank CEO Masayoshi Son told Charlie Rose on PBS late Monday said he is determined to add T-Mobile to Sprint's "framily." "We have to give it a shot," Son said, making the case that Sprint (S, Fortune 500) must try to acquire T-Mobile (TMUS). In March 1989, British scientist Tim Berners-Lee published a paper proposing an "information management" system for his laboratory. His supervisor, Mike Sendall, scrawled some brief comments on the cover: "Vague, but exciting." Sendall couldn't have been more right. Berners-Lee's proposal, conceived to improve information sharing between universities and researchers around the world, paved the way for the World Wide Web as we know it today. Countless pundits have followed Sendall in the years since, prognosticating about how the Web will and won't transform society.
