The subject of her classes may be strange or even uncomfortable, but it's changing the lives of breast cancer survivors in a very personal way.
Dixie Medford is a tattoo artist who is teaching others how to create nipples on the reconstructed breasts of women who have lost their own breasts to cancer. Watch the video above to see how these tattoo artists perfect their skills.
"They can help these people to become whole again," Medford says.
Medford's method is a specialized form of cosmetic tattooing that generates a 3-D illusion that a nipple is there, when really it's not. Sounds simple, but for cancer survivors who are trying to adjust to life with their new bodies, it can make a huge impact.
"It does affect your self-image; it affects your sex life; it affects your femininity, how you feel as a woman," one cancer survivor explains.
Medford has tattooed hundreds in her 70-plus years, but takes pride in her new mission of helping others give this cosmetic comfort to those who need it most.
"I'm in my 70s," she says. "As my candle goes shorter, it's time to light other candles. And that's what it is: A candle in the darkness."
