FORT SMITH, Ark. (KTHV) -- A child was rescued after falling two stories down a ventilation duct.

KFSM reported that first responders and police were dispatched Tuesday morning to the Immaculate Conception School in Fort Smith. The school's principal said the toddler was with her mom organizing school uniforms in the attic when she wandered off.

"She was crying and she was upset, but it didn't take much to get her to hold on to me, so I mean I was just glad to get her out of there," said Fireman Joey Sport, who had to be lowered down to rescue the child in a harness.

Responders took the child to the hospital as a precaution. School officials said they're now working to closed off the ventilation duct. Until then, no one will be allowed in the attic.
