FORT SMITH, Ark. (KFSM) -- A Fort Smith couple is undergoing intensive surgeries in Little Rock this week after being badly burned in a home explosion. All that remains of Tim and Ella Chapman's home is a charred wooden frame that's since been scatted about the yard.

KFSM reported that family friend Bill Neumeir said the couple is now waiting for surgeries at Arkansas Children's Hospital.

"Oh, it's really tough seeing both of them like that. As far as I know, Tim has burns to 17 percent of his body and Ella has burns to 40 plus percent," Neumeir described.

The family said Tim will have his first surgery tomorrow, and Ella is back on a ventilator as of Tuesday afternoon and will have her first surgery Friday.

The cause of the explosion is still under investigation.
