KENSETT, Ark. (KTHV) – A pedestrian was hit and killed by a train early Wednesday morning, according to the White County Sheriff's Office.

Chief Phillip Miller said the incident happened at the Martin Luther King crossing in Kensett about 3 a.m. A Union Pacific train hit and killed a pedestrian who was on the tracks, according to Miller.

According to Deputy Heather Zomant, the victim was identified as Walter Lee Hart, age 58, a resident of Beebe; he was pronounced dead at the scene. Kensett Police Department, White County Sheriff's Department, and Union Pacific Railroad agencies continue to investigate the cause of the incident, in order to determine how the victim ended up on the rail road tracks.

Earlier Wednesday morning, the crossing and rail traffic was held for several hours; normal traffic has resumed at this time.
