PARAGOULD, AR (AP) - A Greene County justice of the peace has been charged with felony second-degree battery for allegedly hitting the county judge.
Prosecuting Attorney Scott Ellington said in a news release that 57-year-old Ronnie Wood was charged following a state police investigation into allegations that Wood pushed and struck County Judge Jerry Shipman in January at a meeting where county officials were discussing road improvements in the county.
A phone call to a number listed for Wood rang unanswered on Saturday.
Ellington said the charge is a felony because of the 72-year-old Shipman's age.
Ellington said he assigned the case to deputy Prosecutor Mike Trail in Clay County to avoid any conflicts of interest by the Greene County deputy prosecutor's office.
