LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) - A combination of extremely low temperatures, snow, and eventually led to several plumbing problems for businesses and home owners.
John Tynan with Central Arkansas Water explained, "Because of that we had a number of increased calls in both our dispatch emergency call center as well as our customer service call center."
Tynan told THV typically the company's call center answers between 60 to 80 calls during the month of January. This past January, they received more than 400. Employees are staying busy responding to calls of broken pipes, frozen pipes and an increase in water main breaks. As a result, the company saw higher expenses than normal. Tynan says, "We were about $150,000 over what we budgeted."
As signs of Spring are finally beginning to show, Central Arkansas Water is taking what they learned this year and implanting changes to improve their response for next year. Tynan explains, "Keep our water lines cycling especially in extreme frigid temperatures so you don't see those freezing and causing some discoloration calls. We're making a number of changes in terms of how we manage a large number of customer calls."
