TONTITOWN, Ark. (KFSM) - A human waste spill in northwest Arkansas kept cleanup crews busy much of the day on Monday.

The spill covered about two miles of roadway near Tontitown.

Authorities said the truck was carrying human waste for the city of Huntsville to a landfill in Tontitown.

Once the waste is cleared, crews said the next step is to spread lime on the road to help the smell.

Meanwhile. people living in the area are worried about the potential health risks because authorities say there is a risk for some bacteria or viruses in the waste.

For those who drove on the roadway today, authorities say do not use your hands to remove the waste from your car. Instead, they suggest going through a car wash.

Authorities said a malfunctioning gate value may have caused the problem, and the truck driver was given a ticket.
