Following a deadly tornado that swept through central Arkansas on Sunday, Faulkner County issued the following press release:

"On April 27, 2014, a tornado caused extensive damage in the Mayflower and Vilonia, Arkansas areas. Emergency Responders are presently on the scene to conduct initial search and rescue and property assessments.

At present, Pat Moore, the Faulkner County Coroner, has confirmed seven fatalities as a result of this storm.

Approximately 60 homes in the Mayflower Plantation Subdivision have sustained extensive damage.

Mayflower is presently under a boil order and residents are requested to stay off the streets. The Mayflower High School and Middle School are open as shelters at present.

There will be a press conference at Mayflower City Hall at 10:00 a.m. on April 28, 2014.

Area residents interested in volunteering with debris removal are requested to wait for further notice before traveling to the area, to give emergency responders time to clear the roads.
