LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) - A program that aims to keep kids safe is celebrating 30 years here in Little Rock.

Safety Town teaches 5-year-olds daily lessons on home dangers and fire safety. Since first debuting in 1984, the program has graduated more than 13,000 kids in our area.

Mayor of safety town Wendy Saer says the little ones aren't the ones learning.

"What I love is that the teenagers are here to help teach them, so it helps reinforce it to the teenagers and then the 5-year-olds go home and teach it to the parents," said Saer.

The safety awareness program lasts five days and once completed, participants get to graduate.
