LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) – On Thursday, kids from ages 6 to 15 flocked to MacArthur Park for Little Rock's annual fishing derby.
All who participated were required to use cane poles when attempting to catch the 1,500 catfish that were stocked on Wednesday.
The city parks and recreation department says 125 of those fish were specially tagged, meaning there was a prize for the children who caught them.
One dad says the nice weather this morning made for a perfect family fishing trip.
"I decided to bring the kids out to the fishing derby. We fish all the time and I figured since this is nicer weather, we could come out and catch us some fish. We've been out here for about a couple of hours and we're almost at our limit, so the fish was pretty good this morning," said Eugene Matthews.
Kids weren't only limited to fishing. The department of parks and rec also brought out bouncy houses, an inflatable beebe gun range and snow cones.
