LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) – The Arkansas Children's Hospital hosted a 'Pint for Pint' blood drive Friday.
Blue bell ice cream partnered with Arkansas Children's Hospital to give a free pint of ice cream to everyone who donated a pint of blood at the event.
In attendance was a very special little girl who has been receiving blood donations since she was 8 years old. Now at 11, Maddie Windle has fought three recurrences of a malignant tumor that originates in the kidneys. Just days ago, doctors told her the tumor has come back for a fourth time.
"[Blood donation] saves lives. It's definitely saved my life before," Windle explained. "Not everyone has a lot of money and not everyone has a lot of time, but everyone has blood that they can donate."
The 'Pint for Pint' blood drive ended at 5 p.m., but there is still a chance to donate to the Red Cross. Go to their website at redcrossblood.org: http://on.kthv.com/1rnLyRO
