STUTTGART, Ark. (KTHV) – Stuttgart Police and Arkansas State Police are still investigating the murder of Daniel Ruffin. The Arkansas County Prosecutor's Office has filed charges against a suspect, and those that knew the victim are still shocked by his death.

"I was very shocked. Someone else told me. I didn't want to believe it," Taylor Borchert, 19, recalled as she spoke about her friend's death with THV11. Ruffin was shot last week just outside of his home. "When we were kids, we used to jump on the trampoline and play superheroes and stuff."

One of Borchert and Ruffin's former classmates, 17-year-old Arthur Hicks, Jr., has been arrested and charged with capital murder.

"He was really nice; he talked to me when I passed him in school. There wasn't anything abnormal," Borchert said of Hicks.

Stuttgart Assistant Police Chief Steven Bobo said state police are still questioning two other people, telling the cameras that he thought that the people Hicks spent time with might have had something to do with Ruffin's death.

County Prosecutor Robert Deddrick told THV 11 last week that one of the two other people involved is related to an employee of the Stuttgart Police Department. That prompted Deddrick to ask state police to assist with the investigation.

"No I don't have a problem at all with the prosecutor calling in the state police for this, at all. They are just re-affirming what we have already done," said Bobo. He's confident that the prosecutor and state police are doing their jobs, but speculation will be slow to die in the small town of Stuttgart. "This town has to come together and heal and get through this."

Hicks is being held at the Juvenile Detention Center.

Bobo won't release a motive yet, but say they have do one.
