FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (KFSM) -- This is a story you don't hear about often, a horse getting a tattoo. And in this case it's a procedure that could save the animals life.

KFSM reports Ace is a 5-year-old Missiouri Foxtrotter horse with a pigmentation problem that causes his right eye to sunburn.

Last week ace was tattooed. Artists put black around ace's eye so light would be absorbed and not reflected.

Owner Beverly Bundren said, "It looks absolutely natural, Ace hasn't had any problems since the procedure, we are going to say it's a complete success."

The tattoo took 40 minutes and they did put him under anesthesia during the procedure.

The tattoo artists say just like any other client, Ace's tattoo will need to be touched up every once and a while.
