BENTON, Ark. (KTHV) - Communities came together to hit the streets on Tuesday in Central Arkansas.

They joined with local law enforcement in a fight against crime. Tonight, the annual National Night Out and communities in Benton joined in to raise awareness of drug and crime prevention.

The event encourages people to get outside, meet neighbors and police and build better communities.

"The benefit is to get to meet your neighbors and get to know them well and get to see the kids in the neighborhood and get to know that they belong or don't belong, so it's been kind of nice," said resident, Lance Pelton.

Five Benton neighborhoods joined in the event tonight. Other cities in Central Arkansas plan to hold their own "Night Out" in a month or so.
