GARLAND COUNTY, Ark. (KTHV) – Authorities said the second suspect in a Garland County shooting of two adults and a child has been taken into custody.

According to Lt. James Martin with the Garland County Sheriff's Office, Benjamin M. Pitts, 24, was taken into custody Wednesday on a parole violation, but is now being charged with two counts of criminal attempt at capital murder, aggravated residential burglary, as well as the parole violation.

His charges reportedly stem from the shooting of three individuals at an apartment complex on Springwood Road in Garland County on April 30. One of those individuals, 26-year-old Mayela Mata, reportedly died from injuries sustained in the incident.

THV11 reported Wednesday that a man named Steven Swanigan was taken into custody by the U.S. Marshall Service on capital murder, among other charges.

Also injured in the shooting were a 20-month-old and an adult male. Lt. Martin said earlier this week that the child was in stable, but critical condition at a Little Rock hospital, and the man had been treated and released from a Hot Springs hospital.
