LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) – The clock is ticking down to the 12th annual Little Rock Marathon, and some the activities have already begun including the 5K, the Little Rockers Marathon, and a few traffic issues.

Drivers beware; many roads along the race course will be closed or cut down to a single lane during the race.

"The biggest change we have on Markham is we're taking a section of it and turning it into 2-way traffic so we can leave two lanes for runners," said Marathon executive director Gina Pharis.

Here are some of the Major road closures:

- Markham Street from Victory Street to Kavanaugh Boulevard

- Clinton Avenue from River Market Avenue to Ferry Street.

- Interstate-30 off ramp to 2nd Street.

- LaHarpe Boulevard from Cumberland Street to Cross Street.

- Chester Street and Markham Street

- State Street and Markham Street.

Spectator parking will be best near Broadway.

We were proud to be part of the early fun Saturday at the Little Rockers Marathon. Hundreds of kids logged miles, all building up to the day's final one-mile run. In recent years, the Little Rockers race has become part of the fight against childhood obesity, but Pharis said they have other reasons they want to involve kids—one of them being RODS (Racing for Orphans with Downs Syndrome).

"We really were selfish when we started the kids' race. We wanted to train people to run early and stay with this all the way through the marathon," she admitted.

Our Craig O'Neill and Dawn Scott helped root the kids to the finish line.

The 5K was also Saturday morning, with hundreds of adults turning out for a brick morning run complete with super-hero costumes and capes.

We will be out there again tomorrow for the big race at the 11-mile marker. If you're running, we'll be there with support; if you're watching, you are welcome to come on down, brave the rain, and help us out.
