LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) - Academy Award-winning actor Jeff Bridges spoke with students at a Little Rock elementary school to highlight its success in distributing breakfast meals.
Bridges is the spokesman for the No Kid Hungry campaign, which is trying to increase participation in programs that provide meals for children at their schools. The campaign is a part of the national non-profit group Share Our Strength.
Stephens Elementary School Principal Sharon Brooks says the school began offering breakfast meals in the classroom about three years ago. She says she's seen a decrease in trips to the nurse's office and discipline issues. The school has about 400 students who almost all qualify for free and reduced-price meals.
Third-grade teacher Sylvia Kelly says she's seen an increase in participation and academic performance.
