LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) - Work is underway to make the River Market District less industrial and more retail-focused.
On Friday, construction started on a new 59-unit apartment and condominium complex called Macarthur Commons.
The market-rate units will start around $700 a month for studios. It's the next step as the area grows more and more popular.
"We feel like it's a great site literally in the River Market District and a block from a lot of the restaurants and shops that exist currently just right down the street," said Jamie Moses, Director of Development at Moses Tucker Real Estate.
This is the first new construction in the core of downtown in over 35 years. The project should be completed in about 13 months, opening late summer 2015.
