NORTH LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) - A popular Tex-Mex restaurant in Little Rock is opening another location north of the river.
Chuy's has been in Arkansas for a little more than a year now, but it's already among the city's top 16 biggest selling restaurants.
The Tex-Mex chain opened its first location on Chenal Parkway in West Little Rock in May 2013. For the full year, that location brought in a little more than $3 million in food sales, plus an additional $390,000 in mixed drink sales, according to Little Rock tax records.
That put Chuy's at No. 16 on the list of top-selling Little Rock restaurants ranked by food sales in 2013, according to Arkansas Business' most recent restaurants list.
The restaurant has since opened its second location in Rogers, and in February, it plans to open a third on Warden Road in North Little Rock.
Founded in 1982, it's since drawn some key investment dollars from some key Arkansas investors, including Little Rock financier Warren Stephens.
In March, Stephens and various Stephens Inc.-related entities declared ownership of more than 1 million shares of Chuy's, or about 6.6 percent of the company's outstanding stock.
It was a significant vote of the confidence in the chain, which is finding that Arkansans love their Tex-Mex.
With the new North Little Rock location, diners will now be able to choose among three Mexican food restaurants within a one-mile stretch of Warden Road.
