JEFFERSON COUNTY, Ark. (KTHV) – A member of the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office is now on paid administrative leave following a deputy-involved shooting Saturday, according to Major Lafayette Woods, Jr., JCSO's public information officer.
Woods told THV11 News that the shooting happened near the intersection of Rhineheart Road and West Pullen Street at Swann's Bar and Lounge in Pine Bluff around 3:30 a.m. He said Pine Bluff Police were sent to the scene, and they found a man who had been shot in the chest.
In a press conference Saturday, Woods said JCSO did not know yet if the deputy in question was at the bar for personal or work-related reasons and did not know the why the shooting happened.
"This point we don't know whether or not it was a personal or duty weapon that was used. It's still premature in the investigation," said Woods. "We hope to know more as time goes on and as we continue to talk with this investigator."
The man who was shot has been taken the Jefferson Regional Medical Center for treatment where he underwent emergency surgery. He has since been admitted to the intensive care unit, where he is said to be stable.
The investigator who fired the single shot was not injured, and an investigation is now underway by the JCSO's Internal Affairs Division.
Swann's lists their hours of operation as open from 7 p.m. until 3 a.m.
