(CNN) -- An event showcasing the elegant and refined world of glamorous hats took place Saturday in Dubai, UAE as part of the Dubai World Cup 2014 horse-racing event with hundreds attending the annual gathering.
At an arena outside Dubai's Meydan Racecourse, an exciting line up of colorful millinery took to the stage as creative hats of all sizes, colors, materials and styles delighted many of the spectators in attendance for one of the world's most prestigious horse racing events.
According to the organizers of the hat show, all spectators were encouraged to participate, with the judges looking for originality, creativity and attention to detail in each designs.
"For the millinery hats, we are looking at the design, the style, what is in season and all the key colors for this year. For the creative hats, we are actually looking for something that is a little bit different, a little bit exciting, a little bit quirky and maybe a little bit over-the-top," said Nicola Gibson from the show's judging panel.
At the end of the competition, a designer from Dubai and her inspired design took home the $8,000 U.S. dollar-prize after scooping the most creative hat gong.
The designer said the hat was designed based on the shapes and colors of flowers in celebration of life as well as the vibrant color of nature.
The hat show is part of the Style Stakes competition, which was sponsored by the luxury car brand Jaguar for the fifth year running. The judging panel - made up of major figures from Dubai's fashion and media industries - also scored the most stylish men and women in the UAE categories including "Best Dressed Lady", "Best Dressed Man", "Best Hat" and "Most Creative Hat".
The Dubai World Cup is a thoroughbred horse-race, held annually since 1996 at the Meydan Racecourse in Dubai.
