NORFOLK, VA (CNN) -- It took nearly a century, but a Virginia now has her high school diploma!
Norfolk Public Schools gave an honorary diploma to 111-year-old Lela Babb Burden this week.
Lela was a student in Norfolk back in 1918, when a flu pandemic hit. The school was shut down to prevent the spread of the flu. Lela never returned to the classroom.
But she later raised a family and remains involved in her community, where she's lived for the last 107 years!
