FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The No. 24 Arkansas baseball team (7-2) dropped both games of its doubleheader Saturday against South Alabama (5-5) at Baum Stadium. The first game was 2-1 in favor of the Jaguars, with game two ending 5-3.
Junior right-handed pitcher Chris Oliver started game one of the twin bill and threw 5.0 innings allowing just one run on four hits while striking out three. Freshman right hander Zach Jackson (0-1) took the loss in game one after 2.2 no-hit innings. Jackson allowed one unearned run and recorded three strikeouts. Sophomore right-handed pitcher Trey Killian (0-1) made his season debut as the starter in game two and was given the loss after allowing four runs on five hits with two strikeouts in 2.2 innings.
Joe Serrano, Krisjon Wilkerson and Brett McAfee each recorded three hits between the two games. McAfee drove in the Razorbacks' only run of game one with a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the ninth. Tyler Spoon and Andrew Benintendi accounted for the runs in the second game as Spoon laced a two-RBI triple in the bottom of the fifth and Benintendi logged a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the ninth after the Razorbacks loaded the bases courtesy of two hit by pitches and one walk.
Arkansas is scheduled to conclude its season-opening 10-game home stand with a Monday matinee against IPFW. First pitch is set for 3:05 p.m.
