RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. (ATU) – Despite a 2-for-4 effort with an RBI from Chelsea Reeves in game one and a 2-for-4 effort with an RBI from Ashley Keen in game two, the Arkansas Tech Golden Suns (13-15, 5-11 GAC) were unable to hold off the offense of the Southern Arkansas Lady Muleriders (17-13, 12-8 GAC) Saturday afternoon as they fell 4-2 and 4-2 at Chartwell's Women's Sports Complex.
In the top of the second, the Lady Muleriders got on the board scoring two, and pushed their lead to 4-0 after two more runs in the fourth inning.
Tech got on the board in the sixth, as Ashley Keen doubled to center field and advanced to third on a wild pitch. An RBI single by Reeves plated Keen, and the Golden Suns added another run on a sacrifice fly by Siarra Gomez. Tech trailed 4-2 going into the seventh inning.
Whitney Robinson got a hit to lead off the inning, but Tech was unable to close the deficit as SAU won 4-2.
Victoria Huie suffered the loss after pitching 6.0 innings, giving up seven hits on four runs, while fanning four.
In game two, Southern Arkansas would be the first to score in the top of the second. They would add another run in the top of the third to have a 2-0 lead.
Shanna Davidson would lead off the fourth inning on a double, followed by an RBI double by Courtney Colunga to pull Tech to within 2-1.
In the top of the sixth, Southern Arkansas' Ivy hit a home run to improve their lead to 3-1. However, Arkansas Tech's Keen responded with a solo home run of her own to narrow the SAU lead to 3-2. In the seventh, another homerun would follow by Southern Arkansas' Goad topush the lead to the game's final margin, 4-2.
Syndee Clark suffered the loss after pitching the complete game, giving up seven hits and four runs.
The Golden Suns will play a non-conference matchup against Harding on Tuesday, March 25 at 1 p.m.
