MAGNOLIA, Ark. (SAU) – The Southern Arkansas football team has released their 2014 schedule and it will feature an even five-game home/road slate as they once again will play all 10 regular season games against Great American Conference opponents.
The 2014 home slate will see Southeastern Oklahoma, Northwestern Oklahoma, Arkansas Tech, Southern Nazarene, and defending GAC champions, Henderson State all come to Wilkins Stadium.
Scheduled road games in 2014 will take the Muleriders to East Central, Southwestern Oklahoma, Harding, Ouachita Baptist, and Arkansas-Monticello.
The Muleriders, who are coming off of consecutive winning seasons for the first time since the 2003 & 2004 seasons, will open the 2014 campaign at home against Southeastern Oklahoma on Saturday, September 6 before hitting the road the next two weeks to take on East Central and Southwestern Oklahoma. The Southeastern Oklahoma game will also serve as SAU's Family Day on campus.
Alternating home and road games will be on tap after their first road swing as the Muleriders will host Northwestern Oklahoma on Saturday, September 27 and Arkansas Tech on Saturday, October 11. In-between those two home games, the Muleriders will play on the road at Harding on Saturday, October 4.
The week following the Arkansas Tech game, the Muleriders will welcome in Southern Nazarene. That game, which will be on Saturday, October 18, will double as SAU's annual Homecoming/Hall of Fame game.
Following a bye week on October 25, the Muleriders will hit the home stretch of their schedule with two of their final three games being played on the road. The first of those is a Saturday, November 1 meeting with Ouachita Baptist. A week later, the Muleriders will return home for Senior Day as they will play Henderson State on Saturday, November 8.
Closing out the Muleriders' regular season is the third-annual Battle of the Timberlands game against rival Arkansas-Monticello. The Muleriders have won the previous two Battle of the Timberlands games, but will have to pick up a road win to make it three straight.
