Recent Regional Success
Arkansas has won three of their last five NCAA Regionals, and gone on to the College World Series two of those three years. The Razorbacks posted a 13-5 record in NCAA Regionals in the last five years, including a pair of perfect 3-0 marks, which came on the road.
Opposite the Charlottesville Regional is the Columbia Regional where South Carolina is playing host to Maryland, Old Dominion and Campbell. If Arkansas and the Gamecocks emerge in their respective regionals, it will be the first time the Razorbacks have faced another SEC program in a Super Regional. Arkansas won two of three from South Carolina earlier this year in Fayetteville.
Arkansas made an appearance in four of the five national polls this week, peaking as high as No. 20 in the Perfect Game USA Top 25. Arkansas is No. 23 in Collegiate Baseball, No. 24 in Baseball America, No. 27 in NCBWA and are the first team receiving votes in the USA Today Coaches Poll.
Razorback Trio Earns SEC Postseason Honors
A trio of Arkansas baseball players earned All-Southeastern Conference honors as voted on by the league's head coaches and announced on Tuesday. Eric Fisher headlined the group with second team All-SEC honors and an appearance on the All-Defensive Team at first base, while Andrew Benintendi was named to the All-Freshman squad and Jake Wise earned All-Defensive honors at catcher.
The SEC has 10 teams in the 2014 NCAA Baseball Tournament field. The 10 teams is the most ever for a single conference in the history of the NCAA Tournament.
Leading From the Top
Since a 2-for-4 performance with two runs scored in the series finale at Ole Miss on May 4, Clark Eagan took over the top spot in the Arkansas lineup and the team surged to a 9-3 record and No. 2 seed in the NCAA Tournament. Over that stretch, Eagan has hit .419 with two doubles, eight runs batted in, 11 runs scored and a .537 on base percentage.
Picked by the Bushel
Arkansas has an SEC-leading 18 pickoff on the year, led by six from Jake Wise, five from Chris Oliver and three from Jalen Beeks. Oliver recorded two pickoffs against Ole Miss in the SEC Tournament, including a runner off second base following a leadoff double and potential tying run in the third inning.
Arkansas' nine shutouts this season by the pitching staff are tied for third most in program history, with the record being set with 13 shutouts in 51 games during the 1977 season. They are one shutout from tying for second in the record books with the 2013 squad.
