RUSSELLVILLE, Ark.— The Arkansas Tech Wonder Boys basketball team (21-9) will continue its season, by virtue of an at-large selection to the NCAA Division II Men's Basketball Championship field, announced Sunday by the NCAA.
Arkansas Tech will be the seventh seed in the Central region, and will face second-seed and national No. 15 Central Missouri (24-5) in the opening round, with the game to be played Saturday, March 15 at 2:30 p.m. at the Taylor Center in Mankato, Minn., on the campus of Minnesota State University.
Tech earned an at-large bid after capturing the Great American Conference regular-season title and advancing to the semifinals of the conference tournament before falling to eventual champion Harding. The Wonder Boys will make their sixth consecutive trip to the NCAA tourney, and are joined by eighth-seed Harding as the two GAC representatives to the regional.
Quarterfinal competition will be held on Saturday, March 15 with third-seed Missouri Southern opening play against sixth-seeded Fort Hays State at noon. Tech vs. UCM follows at 2:30, while top-seeded Minnesota State plays Harding at 5 p.m. The nightcap will feature fourth-seeded Winona State and fifth-seeded Northwest Missouri.
Semifinal games will be played on Sunday, March 16, with the championship round to be played on Tuesday, March 18.
Tickets for the regional are $15 for reserved seats, $10 for adults and $5 for senior citizens, children (ages 5-17) and college students with valid student IDs. Tickets can be purchased online at msumavericktickets.com beginning Monday, March 10 at noon. Tickets will not be mailed but fans have the option of printing their own tickets online or they will be available for pick-up at the MSU Athletics Office between the hours of 8 a.m., and 4 p.m. Tickets that are not picked up can be claimed at Taylor Center Will Call on the day of the game. Online ticket availability closes at 9 p.m., the day prior to each session.
