MIAMI (AP) - Tropical Storm Aletta has formed in the Pacific, becoming the first named storm of the year in the eastern north Pacific.

The storm has maximum sustained winds Tuesday near 45 mph (72 kph). Aletta was expected to start weakening on Wednesday or Thursday.

The storm is swirling far out over the Pacific and is not posing a danger to land. Aletta is centered about 775 miles (1,250 kilometers) south of the southern tip of Baja California, Mexico and is moving west-northwest near 10 mph (16 kph).

The storm's forecast track shows it going farther out to sea.
