Flooding

Most people don't realize that on average, Flash Flooding is the deadliest of all types of severe weather.

So here's what you need to know:

Just two feet of water moving 5 miles per hour can sweep your vehicle off the road. The National Weather Service has confirmed that many flood fatalities occur when people are almost to their destination.

The best rule is: TURN AROUND - DON'T DROWN! IT'S JUST NOT WORTH IT!

While most flash flood fatalities occur in vehicles, being stuck outside when water's rising quickly is a real threat to your safety.

If you are caught with rising water:
  • Go to higher ground immediately! Know your surroundings and avoid small rivers, streams, or low spots.
  • Do not allow children to play around streams, drainage ditches or viaducts, storm drains, or other flooded areas!
  • If ordered to evacuate or if rising water is threatening, leave immediately and get to higher ground!

It's your life and the lives of your family…REMEMBER it's up to you to protect what's important!
