First medical marijuana dispensary officially opens its doors to the public

A staff member estimated at least 400 people showed up to the opening.

HOT SPRINGS, Ark. — Saturday, May 11, Doctor’s Orders Rx opened its doors to the public in Hot Springs.

People from across the state showed up at the marijuana dispensary’s doors.

“I’m here to get the medical marijuana for my back, you know, my knees, which I’ve had two back surgeries. Two knee surgeries,” North Little Rock resident Gary Sinkey said.

Many customers were hoping to leave with a little bit of relief.

“I’m hoping that it will help me because I can’t sleep at night,” Sinkey said.

It’s the first in the state to meet all of the licensing requirements and open doors.

Customers said they’ve been anticipating the day.

“We drove from Goshen. It was about 3 and a half hours. We left about 3 in the morning,” Celeste Wdowiak said.

The business only let a handful of people in at a time, with some people waiting 7 hours to get inside.

“My mom has Alzheimer’s, so THC is supposed to help reduce the plaque in her brain that comes with Alzheimer’s, so it was very important for us. We’ve been waiting since July,” Wdowiak said.
