Beebe Middle School student starts fundraiser for best friend with special needs

Atti Bell and William Castleberry are two 11-year-olds that show how friendship can bring out the best in people.

BEEBE, Ark. (KTHV) — Friendship is a funny thing, it can make you feel happy, sad and maybe sometimes even a little annoyed but two friends in Beebe are proving just how life-changing a strong friendship can be.

Atti Bell, 11, and William Castleberry, 11, have a one of a kind friendship.

William is diagnosed with Pierre Robin, Dandy-Walker Formation and Autism. His dad tried to enroll him at Sunshine School in Searcy but it was at full capacity, so William enrolled at Beebe Middle School and that's where William and Ati became best friends.

“We were outside on the playground and his teacher was pushing him around in his wheelchair and I asked if I could push,” she said.

Since then, the two have been inseparable, they’re two peas in a pod.

“He comes to my softball games. He came to my house for Christmas, and we spent Halloween together,” she said.

Thanks to the staff at Beebe Middle School, William has come a long way. He was once wheelchair-bound but now he can walk with a walker, recognize numbers and colors in Spanish, spell, recognize sounds, letters and words.

Atti said thinks her BFF is capable of much more.

“I'm trying to raise money for an adaptive tricycle that will help him walk and gain muscles and it pedals at the handlebars and the feet. I need to do something special for him because he's my friend and I love him and he needs help walking and I feel like I can make an impact with that,” she said.

Atti said their friendship has taught her so much and she wants to do something special for William.

“It'll help him get around easier, it's easy for us to get around but it's not easy for him and I want him to feel like us,” Atti said.

The tricycle will cost anywhere from $4,000 to $5,000. There is an account set up at First Security bank called, “Rolling for William,” if you'd like to donate.
