Man arrested for Olde Towne YMCA double shooting

One of two men shot outside a Portsmouth YMCA is now charged in connection to that shooting, police said.

PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WVEC) -- Police have arrested one of two men who were shot in the parking lot at the YMCA in Olde Towne on Monday afternoon.

Emergency dispatchers received a call around 3:10 p.m. from the location at 1013 Effingham Street.

One man has life-threatening injuries from a gunshot wound to his torso. The other, 36-year-old Jamall Taylor, was shot in the arm and has serious injuries. Medics took both to the hospital.

On Wednesday, Portsmouth Police said they have charged Taylor with aggravated malicious wounding, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Taylor is currently in the custody of the Portsmouth Sheriff's Office.

Detectives said the victims were familiar with each other and the shooting was an isolated event.
