PRINCETON, N.J. – An all-male a capella group at Princeton University says it will temporarily scrap a song from the 1989 Disney movie The Little Mermaid because of #MeToo movement criticism.

Wesley Brown, a senior and president of the Tigertones, announced Friday the band will try to rework the performance for the song “Kiss The Girl.”

Brown wrote a letter to the editor on Nov. 30:

"Because of these concerns, we are removing 'Kiss the Girl' from our active repertoire until we can arrive at a way to perform it that is comfortable and enjoyable for every member of our audience."

The group’s decision came four days after the student paper, The Daily Princetonian, published a column which read “Dear Tigertones, please stop singing ‘Kiss The Girl.'”

The New York Times reported that the all-male a cappella group call up a woman on stage for dancing, then call up a man from the audience. As the song ends, the singers urge the two to kiss.

Noa Wollstein, who wrote the column, told the New York Times she’s never been called up on stage for the Tigertones rendition of “Kiss The Girl,” but she has seen the performances. She said it made her and others feel unconformable.

Last week, a Cleveland radio station said it had stopped playing the holiday song “Baby It’s Cold Outside” out of respect for the #MeToo movement.
