Picnic, swim, hike, fish along picturesque Walnut Creek in the heart of the Ouachita National Forest

Discover Arkansas traveled to Hot Springs to visit Charlton Recreation Area, situated in the heart of the Ouachita National Forest.

This week, the Discover Arkansas team comprised of Adam and a couple co-hosts, Adam’s daughter, Audrey and a young lady named Reagan who is the niece of one of our THV11 directors.

They traveled to Hot Springs to visit Charlton Recreation Area off Hwy 270. The park is situated in the heart of the Ouachita National Forest.

The Charlton Recreation Area, known by some as Camp Charlton, provides many amenities, from camping (primitive of full hookups), hiking, picnicking, and swimming. Adam found himself in a stone skipping competition with some visitors from Louisiana.

The swimming area is part of the Walnut Creek, which is a COLD spring-fed mountain spring. It is guaranteed if you are hot on a super-hot day, a quick dip in the creek will cool you off immediately.

Audrey and Reagan also enjoyed checking out the old bathhouse dated back to 1935.

This area proved to be a wonderful getaway and the kids truly enjoyed hanging out for the day. One of the most beautiful things is Audrey and Reagan became great friends after the day discovering Arkansas.
