Revamped Riverfest open, headliners include Aaron Tippin, Young Thug

This is Tippin's first time to play at the amphitheater, but not his first time performing in Little Rock.

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) - Riverfest is officially back and this three-day event is full of music and family fun.

One of Friday’s headliners is the Roots and Boots tour with Aaron Tippin. He gave us an exclusive interview ahead of his performance.

“I've been in Little Rock a few times," said Tippin. The "Kiss This" country artist of 27 years credits Little Rock to helping kick off his career.

“One of my first gigs was coming to Little Rock to the fair with Reba McEntire and I opened the show for her. That's been 27 years ago," said Tippin, who is taking the Riverfest stage for the first time. “The huge amphitheater, this is awesome! Right here on the river. Wow -- first chance I've had to play this.”

Alongside Sammy Kershow and Collin Raye, the three have been performing together as part of their Roots and Boots Tour for seven years

“We're filing the seats every night, it’s just incredible," said Tippin. “Folks still remember my hits and watching them sing along, I think the coolest thing is there's 20-year-old singing and me and Sammy and Collin go ‘where did they learn this stuff?’”

Tippin Is still taking the stag, while passing down his talent to upcoming artists.

“I’m kind of back into the song writing back in Nashville working with some new guys seeing if I can write some hits for these new up-comers,” said Tippin.

Tippin takes the First Security Amphitheater stage at 7:15 Friday.
