Meteorologist Adam Bowles learns the science behind picking the perfect tree

As our Meteorologist Adam Bowles learned, at the Romance Christmas Tree Farm, there's a science to finding the perfect tree.

ROMANCE, Ark. — Down Highway 5, in Romance, Arkansas, is a Christmas tree farm, a family tradition that (literally) grew into the giant farm it is today.

As our Meteorologist Adam Bowles learned, at the Romance Christmas Tree Farm, there's a science to finding the perfect tree.

"When you buy a tree, what you want to look for is the conication of it. The bottom half should be two-thirds of what the top half is, so that gives it the conical shape," Kevin Newcom said.

For some, getting a Christmas tree is as simple as taking it out of a box. But for those who prefer natural trees, it takes about seven to eight years for it to mature. According to Newcom, if you leave a tree untrimmed, it'll grow up to twenty or thirty feet tall!

The farm grows a variety of trees, including Leyland Cypress, Fraser Fir, Noble Fir, and Virginia Pine. All this variety totals up to approximately 2,500 to 3,000 trees at their farm.

The farm also has tabletop trees, or as Adam calls them, Charlie Brown trees that are about 4 feet tall. Newcom said they are perfect for people with smaller homes or apartments.

You can check out the farm on Facebook, or visit them in person any day between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m.

You can find the farm off Highway 5, approximately 11 miles north of El Paso, or 5 miles south of Rose Bud.
