Made by Mariel: Did you know you can paint tile?

If you have a tiled bathroom in a color you don't love, don't worry about ripping it all out. Just paint it!

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — Some older homes have tiled bathrooms in colors like blue, yellow and pink. But before you decide to shell out thousands of dollars on a complete re-model, Mariel Ruiz and her husband Joe show us how all it takes is $50 and some elbow grease.

All the materials you need can be found at Haynes Ace in Conway. They've even made a "Made by Mariel" endcap inside the store so you can just grab the bag, checkout and go!

-Tub and Tile Refinishing Kit
-Sandpaper (600 grit)
-Tape
-Paintbrushes and paint roller
-Multipurpose cleaner

Step One: 24 hours before you start, make sure to remove all the fixtures, tape off the sides, clean and scrub all the tile and then sand down the tile so the paint is even.

Step Two: Follow the instructions on the Tube and Tile Refinishing Kit. Mariel's fun tip: It's powerful stuff so make sure to open a window to get ventilation. You may also want to use a mask.

Step Three: Mariel started out using the paintbrush but she thought it looked streaky so she decided to try a paint roller instead. After testing, she decided to use the paint roller and then fill in the cracks with the paintbrush. Make sure to use 2 or 3 coats to get the color you want. Wait 24 hours between coats and then give it 24 hours before using the bathroom again.
