Secret tunnel that Al Capone used now under wax museum in Hot Springs

Famous gangster Al Capone would escape Hot Springs nightclub through an underground tunnel.

HOT SPRINGS, Arkansas — The Josephine Tussauds Wax Museum is open for business in downtown Hot Springs but the tunnel underneath has been closed for decades.

Historians believe that mob boss Al Capone partied at the Southern Club on Central Avenue in the 1930s. That building is now the wax museum.

Capone frequently stayed at the Arlington Hotel across the street. When trouble arose, Hot Springs historians say Capone would escape the nightclub through an underground tunnel that led back to the Arlington Hotel.

In December, the Discover Arkansas crew visited the Arlington Hotel. General Manager Alan Sims said Capone would rent the entire 4th floor. You can watch that story here
