Craig O'Neill reads the 2021 Diamond Book Award nominees

THV11's very own Craig O'Neill reads the 2021 Diamond Book Award nominees!

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — In Arkansas, we get to enjoy stories of diamond discoveries, and we’re the only state that has that honor.

A diamond discovery can change a life, can produce untold excitement and be a source of wonder for a lifetime. And so can a children’s book.

This is why The Arkansas Department of Education, The Arkansas State Library, and Arkansas Reading Association created the “Diamond Book Awards.”

But, it’s the voting process that makes this so unique, because the children in K-3rd grades read the books and then vote on their favorite. In order to vote, they must have read three of the 11 nominees. The reading and voting have begun. A winner will be named in May.

Not all schools have all the books. This is where THV11 comes in. Craig O’Neill is in the process of recording all 11 books and editing in the pictures.

All media specialists, teachers, and parents have to do is click on the link, and let the book begin and the voting that goes with it.

Be watching this space as we add books over the coming month. Happy reading, and who knows, maybe your child will discover a diamond!!! We hope so. We know so.

List of books Craig has read:

Hugely-Wugely Spider by Ethan Berlin

The United States v. Jackie Robinson by Sudipta Bardhan-Quallen
