North Little Rock empty gas station future home for food trucks, farmers' market

City council members approved a food truck court and small-scale farmers' market Monday in North Little Rock's Park Hill neighborhood.

NORTH LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — City council members approved a food truck court and small-scale farmers' market Monday in North Little Rock's Park Hill neighborhood.

Joy Evans and Kristi Scott had the vision to turn an empty gas station off of JFK Blvd. into a food truck court and small farmers' market.

"I felt that a food truck court is kind of the new fad and that it would go over well in that community," Evans said.

Park Hill is currently under a revitalization. Scott feels this will add life to the community.

"It has such a great vision for people to be able to walk and just congregate," Scott said.

Four food trucks can occupy the space at one time, inside will also be a small scale farmers market.

"With some local produce. Candles, scents," Evans said.

However, one of the big concerns is there won't be enough places for people to park.

"The owner of the food truck court is going to be leasing some property across G street that has parking available," City council member Beth White said.

White said this will make it easy for people to safely get to the food truck court.

"I had the traffic and safety directors both out with me Friday and we looked at the area one more time to see if they had any suggestions to keep it as safe as possible," she said.

She said the adjacent property will also keep cars from parking in nearby neighborhoods.

"We appreciate Park Hill residents for accepting us and accepting this idea," Scott said.

Evans and Scott are excited to open their doors to the community.

"We are humbled to be able to have the opportunity to provide this atmosphere for them," Scott said.

They hope to have the food truck court open by mid-April.
